    Ranges from 3-day to 1-year long training courses, including a Teachers Training on Bamboo Craft & an Advanced Bamboo Housing course

  • Established Production Units to Produce Bamboo Products
    Provide a center where artisans can develop products and get trained locally, known as "Udyog Shalas". 1 mother unit and 2 satellite units are currently running in the Melghat region

    Established an Artisan Cooperative to Market & Sell Products

  • Established an Artisan Cooperative to Market & Sell Products
    Sells finished Bamboo products for artisans, known as "Venushilpi Audhyogic Sahakari Sanstha"

  • Provides Design & Technical Support via Third Party
    With assistance from IDC IIT-Mumbai, a team of architects, expert artisans & others leverage new techniques & designs to provide assistance to SBK

  • Promotes and Builds Bamboo Housing
    Developed independent techniques and materials to build bamboo houses in a variety of locations
    Partnered and works closely with National Mission for Bamboo Applications (NMBA)
    Built 1000 Bamboo Houses Throughout India
    Trained 120 locals on Bamboo housing techniques and built 742 of those houses after the January 2001 earthquake
    218 of those houses were traditional "Bhunga" style homes
    Housing is now significantly more resilient to earthquakes and the interior stays much cooler, compared to previous housing

    SBK house design won the national HUDCO Design Ideas Competition 2004-2005

  • Motivated Artisans to Establish Karigar Panchayat
    Helps to unite the community to find solutions to their problems Established in 1996 with 94 local Karigar Panchayats & 700-1000 artisans

  • Promotion of Self Help Groups (SHG)
    Help to involve more people in income generation activities

  • Partnered with a Variety of Quality Institutions:
    Rajiv Gandhi Technology Mission, NMBA, VNIT, IIT Delhi, IIT Mumbai, NABARD, NCRI, UNDP, UNICEF

  • Gram Gyanpeeth at Bori village in Melghat:
    Regarding this Mr. Sunil Deshpande participated in a discussion during 10th April to 12th April 2013. Discussion held at Adilabad and with Guruji Mr. Ravindra Sharma.

  • Gurudeo Sewa Mandal:
    SBK and Gurudeo Sewa Mandal, Dharni jointly trying to explore the possibilities of employment with the help of Bamboo. Chether cluster plan meeting was held on 30th April 2013.


On 19th April 2013 there was a concluding function of handicraft training at Wageshwari Mandir, Dhamangoan, Dist. Burhanpur, MP. Hon. Education Minister Smt. Archana Chitanvis was the chief guest for the concluding function.
Mr. Sunil Deshpande inaugurated the udyogshala at Dombivali on 7th May 2013. Mr. Kishor Mankar, a young artist trained in Bamboo Craft before 10 years in Lawada. He is trained in Bamboo articles and other material articles. He is trying to expanding the production activities on large scale.

On 9th May 2013 there was clothes and utensils distribution to fire victims at Pilli village, taluka Chikhaldara. SBK workers contact to volunteers in Nagpur and collect the clothes and utensils.
Gram Gyanpeeth programme was held at Govind Nagar, Bankhedi, Dist. Hoshangabad MP on 21st May 2013. Mr. Sunil Deshpande (SBK) is the consultant to Bhau sahib Bhuskute Lok Smruti Nyas. Gram Gyanpeeth is education center based on philosophy of Guruji Shri. Ravindra Sharma. Hon. Chief Minister Mr. Shivrajsing Chavan declare to start a Karigar Mission in MP.

On 28th May 2013 Vidarbha Bamboo Parishad organized a meeting to protest the decision taken by Secretary Education Department Maharashtra State to purchase polymer furniture as eco friendly material at school level. 15 NGO representatives were present and decided to bring out a stay on this decision in the interest of Bamboo.
